President Brown and Provost Morrison Visit DC

BU President Robert A. Brown and Provost Jean Morrison visited Washington, DC, on April 2nd to discuss the University’s priorities in research, student aid and international education with policymakers. They also hosted an open house for the new BU Federal Relations office in downtown Washington.

President Brown held a number of meetings on Capitol Hill. He discussed student aid with Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), neuroscience research with Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA), and global issues with Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA).  He also met with Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, to outline BU’s work in health care. Provost Morrison’s meetings focused on BU’s international partnerships and global health activities. She spent time with U.S. Agency for International Development Chief Strategy Officer Carla Koppell, Acting Peace Corps Director and BU alumna Carrie Hessler-Radelet, and Dr. Sarah Degnan Kambou of the International Center for Research on Women, also a BU alumna.

At the BU Federal Relations open house in the evening, President Brown and Provost Morrison were joined by Representative Jim McGovern (D-MA), Capitol Hill and federal agency staff, and BU alumni. Launched in July 2012, BU Federal Relations advocates on behalf of the University’s priorities before Congress and federal agencies, connects faculty with research funding opportunities, and raises BU’s profile among key stakeholders in D.C. Guests at the reception learned about these activities as well as other notable research and student development at the University.
