Draft Environmental Impact Report
George E. Morris Sailing Pavilion

BU has filed for review its Draft Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIR), addressing the environmental impacts of constructing a new sailing pavilion on the banks of the Charles River near the pedestrian overpass off Sherborn Street.

The proposed pavilion will rectify long-standing inadequacies - accessibility, safety, code compliance, functionality - of BU's existing sailing shed beneath the BU Bridge and railroad bridge. It will enable BU to continue providing a rich and comprehensive sailing program, not only for members of the BU community, but for the public at large. Indeed, of the 1400 annual users of BU's sailing program, 60% comprise public members - high school students, summer camp programs, and recreational sailors from the neighborhood.

The Draft EIR has been filed for review with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, and comments may be filed on or before January 7, 2002 (addressed to: Bob Durand, Secretary, Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, Attention: MEPA Office, LeAndrea Dames, EOEA No. 12520, 251 Causeway Street, Suite 900, Boston, MA 02114). Comments will be responded to in a Final EIR. If you can review the Final EIR online, and do not wish that volume to be mailed to you, please so indicate in your comment letter.

BU has also prepared an Executive Summary of the Draft EIR. Click to review either the Executive Summary (12 pages, 2.6 MB) or the complete Draft EIR (356 pages, 16.8 MB) using the free Acrobat reader (please note: the Draft EIR has an interactive table of contents, pages 7-13, and by clicking on any Section or Figure, you will access that particular part).

You interest and support are welcome.
