NSF Workshop: Future Directions in Systems Research for Networked Sensing

Public Health Social Work in the 21st Century

Boston University Schools of Social Work and Public Health are co-sponsoring a national conference on May 19, 2006. As part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the dual-degree MSW/MPH program,this free one-day working conference is entitled "Public Health Social Work in the 21st Century". Colleagues from a variety of backgrounds including practice, academia, research, and policy will participate in a day of networking, learning, and action planning. In addition to nationally known speakers, there will be 25 scientific papers presented on best practices in contemporary public health social work. The conference is dedicated to Ruth Cowin, co-founder of the MSW/MPH program at Boston University. A public health social worker for more than six decades, she tirelessly promoted the integration of public health and social work in both academia and the community. Ms. Cowin died last year at the age of 94, but will be remembered on May 19, when alumni recall her positive contributions to the field.

The Department of Music Education at Boston University will offer all three levels of Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training from August 7-17, 2006. The program offers an opportunity to explore this creative approach to music education while enjoying the cultural and recreational attractions of Boston in the summer. Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training Levels I, II, and III offer intensive and exciting exposure to Orff Schulwerk philosophy, pedagogy, techniques, theory, orchestration, and improvisation from internationally recognized music educators and professionals. Sessions focus on several areas: ensemble playing, lessons and pedagogy, recorder techniques, dance and movement, and special topics. The curriculum for these courses follows the guidelines established by the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA) and constitutes the three phases in the process leading to national certification. Music Educators: Explore Orff Schulwerk this Summer

The Department of Music Education at Boston University will offer all three levels of Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training from August 7-17, 2006. Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training Levels I, II, and III offer intensive and exciting exposure to Orff Schulwerk philosophy, pedagogy, techniques, theory, orchestration, and improvisation. Sessions focus on several areas: ensemble playing, lessons and pedagogy, recorder techniques, dance and movement, and special topics. The curriculum for these courses follows the guidelines established by the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA) and constitutes the three phases in the process leading to national certification.
