Survey of University Home Pages

As part of the project to redesign the Boston University home page, Networked Information Services (NIS) conducted a thorough review of 56 university home pages. NIS undertook this effort to better understand how the decisions it was making about the design and construction of the new BU home page concurred or conflicted with the decisions that other universities make. NIS discovered many areas of common ground and few surprises. Still, the findings are useful and interesting. NIS conducted the review last fall, so some of the information is out of date. It plans to update this survey next month.

Forums@BU, an interactive web-based bulletin board, is now available to all academic and administrative departments. A department can use forums to communicate with its students, faculty, staff, and others. Within its forum, a department can create an unlimited number of subforums. For example, a department could set up a subforum for its career services office, for a conference or seminar, or for communications with its faculty. Departments can link to any forum or subforum directly from their websites. Forums@BU can help create new connections with constituents. It's about communication and community, not technology. Operational Procedures During the Democratic National Convention

BU's Explorations in Learning program is now enrolling students in a unique learning adventure, Marine Science: The Gulf of Maine Environment by Sea Kayak. This residential environmental studies course combines readings, lectures, and first-hand investigations of Maine's picturesque, protected bays by kayak. Students will begin their learning adventure on June 20, 2004, when they depart by ferry from Portland, Maine, for Peak's Island, one of the 211 islands that comprises Casco Bay.

College of Engineering Design Competition

Don't Get Hacked: Microsoft Windows Security Advisory

Microsoft recently released a critical patch for a vulnerability in Windows NT, 2000, and XP. This vulnerability allows an attacker to gain access to your Windows PC, including all files and data on your PC. These systems may then be used to attack other computers on the network. The patch must be installed on all Windows NT, 2000, 2003, and XP systems, at home or on campus, in order to protect them. All Windows users must take a moment to review this advisory and get the security update from Microsoft to protect themselves.

The Terrier Men's Basketball win on Thursday sets up a monster game at league-leading Vermont on Sunday at 12 noon. B.U. comes into the game winners of seven in a row and 18 of its last 19 games while the Catamounts, 12-0 in America East, have won 13 games in a row and 16 of their last 17. The game will be televised throughout New England on NESN as part of the America East television package.
