The Faculty Assembly has elected Stephen Brady, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Graduate Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, to the office of Vice-Chair of the Faculty Council.

Dr. Brady will serve a term of one (1) year as Vice-Chair, a term of two (2) years as Chair of the Faculty Council and then a term of one (1) year as Past-Chair.  His service as Vice-Chair will begin on June 1, 2013.

J. Robb Dixon, Associate Professor of Operations and Technology Management, School of Management, has been put forth by the Nominating Committee of the Faculty Assembly for the office of Secretary-Treasurer of the Faculty Council.  Prof. Dixon will serve a term of two (2) years.  His service as Secretary-Treasurer will begin on June 1, 2013.

A tireless advocate for all Boston University faculty, and a winner of the Perkins Award for Distinguished Service, Becky served as the Director of Faculty Governance for over 35 years. Over her long tenure she served as both the institutional memory of the Faculty Council and as an integral part of the Council’s work. Her efforts to ensure faculty participation in university governance made Boston University a better place to teach, research, and learn. We are a better university as a result of her many years of service.

Becky grew up in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and enrolled at Boston University in 1967. She began working at the Faculty Council as an undergraduate and became its first full-time Director upon graduation in 1971.

Those who worked with Becky always knew her as an exceedingly modest person who rarely drew attention to herself. Despite her modesty, she routinely found herself at the center of important and at times contentious debates during BU’s transformation into a major research university. Through it all, she never lost sight of the central role that faculty must play in university life.

After she retired from Boston University in 2008, Becky moved to Florida where she enjoyed golfing, swimming and walking. Becky is survived by her husband, Leo Bourgeois, their daughter, Abby Bourgeois, and many family members in the Boston area. Those wishing to donate in her name may do so at Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Ameson Avenue, Auburndale, Florida, 33823.

A memorial service with friends, family and colleagues will be held for Becky in Marsh Chapel on Friday, April 20, 2012 at noon.

A broadcast email will be sent to faculty and staff with the details, and it will be posted on the Faculty Council website.

I am pleased to report the results.

With a majority of members voting, all of the questions passed with an approval of over 90%.

We have met the requirements under the Constitution, with a return by the majority of the Faculty Assembly and an approval on each ballot question exceeding 2/3.

These changes do not take effect until ratified by the Board of Trustees.
