New Members Orientation
Welcome to the Faculty Council. This page is meant to provide new and returning representatives of the Faculty Council with a sketch of who we are and how we function within Boston University.
As always, if you have questions, please ask Adam Sweeting, Faculty Council Chair or Samantha Khosla, Director.
We will hold an orientation for new members on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 2:45-3:30, before the first Faculty Council meeting of the year. The Faculty Council usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month in the Colloquium Room on the 9th Floor of the Photonics Building from September through May. We will hold one meeting on the MED campus in the fall.
If you are a representative of your school or college, you are also a member of the University Council. The UC usually meets 4-5 times per year on a Wednesday afternoon. ***If you cannot attend a UC meeting*** it is very important for you to contact one of the elected alternates of your school or college to attend in your place. The UC is composed of half faculty and half senior administration, and it is the place where policies are discussed and voted on (see the “pinball machine” below). Faculty attendance at the UC is very important.
While our meetings are generally paper-free, we will distribute handouts to you during orientation. The links below will get you started.
The Faculty Council is mandated by the Constitution of the Faculty Assembly/Faculty Council to represent the faculty at Boston University.
