Getting Started at Boston University
Boston University students, faculty, and staff are assigned a nine-character, computer-generated ID number and card (Terrier Card). All regular full- and part-time faculty members who attend new employee orientation will receive a Terrier Card the week of their orientation. You will receive information from the Human Resources Office regarding orientation schedules. The Terrier Card is used for building access, borrowing privileges at Boston University libraries, discounts at the Barnes & Noble at BU, dining at the Faculty Staff Dining Room, and discounts to University events as well as other benefits both on and off campus.
The Boston University Kerberos account is necessary in order to use campus technology resources and to manage your class. It creates a BU email account (which can be forwarded to any email address) and provides you with login information for online courseware, library reference materials and article databases, grading, and the Faculty Link to access class rosters and other information. All full- and part-time faculty members are required to have a Kerberos login and password. If you are new to BU you will be able to set up your account only after you meet with Human Resources to verify your I-9 documents.
With an e-mail account, you can read and reply to your BU e-mail on a website, through your favorite desktop client, or with a hand-held device. Accounts for new faculty and staff will be provisioned during employment onboarding, along with the BU Kerberos Account.
