Despite years of schooling, many students are seldom taught how best to learn and why learning strategies work. This Teaching Talk focuses on two core components of academic success: time-management and mindsets. For time management, the following will be reviewed: 1) relevant research, 2) why we procrastinate, and 3) how to battle procrastination. Likewise, for mindsets: 1) growth vs. fixed mindsets, 2) stereotype threat, and 3) “grit”/persistence. Additionally, basic steps on how students may properly manage their time will be listed. The objective is for faculty members to acquire this knowledge and to share it with their students.
