If you’re a homeowner, you know how hard it can be to deal with the many things that can go wrong in one building. Now, multiply that by more than 300 and you begin to understand the demands of maintaining the Boston University campuses’ facilities. The University employs an in-house staff of 175 trained, licensed trades workers to handle both routine and emergency support for plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical systems, carpentry, masonry, landscaping, and more. Whether it’s a clogged toilet, a power outage, or a broken door handle, tradespeople are there to help.

Tradespeople work closely with BU Housing, Residence Life, and other college and administrative staff to maintain and improve University facilities. Collaboration among the trades is also often required. When the front door of a residence needs to be replaced, for example, Trucking, Carpentry, Painting, and the Lock Shop are all involved in the process.
