This project remodeled 38-year-old kitchens and bathrooms and updated finishes in 10 graduate student apartments. Electric baseboard heat was replaced with a gas-fired, hot water system. Unit electrical service was upgraded and fire suppression (sprinkler) systems were extended from common areas into the units.

Sustainability

A legacy of low energy costs, 56 Bay State Road was last renovated in 1982 and used electric baseboard heat. By eliminating a garden level unit, the electric baseboard heating system was replaced with a gas-fired hot water system, which will require significantly less energy to operate.
