Samina Karim is one of the leading experts in the area of corporate restructuring and the reconfiguration of resources and market activities. Samina Karim is one of the leading experts in the area of corporate restructuring and the reconfiguration of resources and market activities. She has also extensively studied post-acquisition integration and the choice firms make to pursue acquisitions versus internal development. Professor Karim is especially interested in mobile devices and services, and has extensive experience in the medical sector both in her research and her previous work as an R&D engineer with Hewlett-Packard’s former medical products group. Her research has been published in several book chapters and in leading journals including Strategic Management Journal and Management Science.

She served as an elected executive committee member of the Business, Policy & Strategy division of the international Academy of Management for 2010-2012. She is currently an elected representative to the Competitive Strategy division of the global Strategic Management Society for 2012-2014, an invited member of the Organization Design Community, and also serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization and the Journal of Organization Design.

Professor Karim teaches the core Strategy course in the MBA program, doctoral seminars in the Ph.D. program, and a variety of sessions in Executive Education. She has a Ph.D. in Corporate Strategy from University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, a Masters in Applied Economics from University of Michigan’s Economics department, a Masters in Education from Harvard University, and a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.
