Gary W. Nicksa
Vice President for Operations
Gary W. Nicksa joined BU in 2005, following a 25-year career of financial and operations management in education and industry. Some of his more visible projects have been the Commonwealth Avenue Improvement Project, which has significantly upgraded pedestrian and bicyclist safety and the look of the Charles River Campus, and the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) on the Medical Campus.
As Vice President for Operations, Nicksa manages the planning, development, construction, and maintenance all BU facilities. His office also provides business and financial oversight to the professional schools located on the Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC).

- BUMC OperationsBUMC Operations includes campus-level services supporting the schools of medicine, public health, and dental medicine. It also includes working with Boston Medical Center, the School of Medicine’s primary teaching hospital affiliate, for shared administrative services and campus development. .
- Facilities Management & PlanningFacilities Management & Planning maintains the more than 300 buildings and facilities on our two campuses. It also offers construction planning and space management services.
- Financial & Business Affairs, BUMCFinancial & Business Affairs, BUMC supports our Medical Campus schools with administrative, property acquisition, and financial planning and reporting expertise.
- Real Estate ManagementReal Estate Management oversees the buying, selling, leasing, development, and management of the commercial, institutional, and residential properties on our two campuses as well international properties. It’s also closely involved in campus planning.
