The Center for the Study of Europe is delighted to be participating in a new Jean Monnet funded project—titled We-Bind—to continue important work on Women’s Leadership in International Relations begun in 2013 in Brussels. The project is spearheaded by Federiga Bindi, Jean Monnet Chair and Professor of Political Science at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, and based at the  Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) in Washington DC. IWPR is  one of the most respected think tanks working on gender issues and women leadership. Our contributing faculty include Rosella Capella, Assistant Professor of Political Science; Virgina Sapiro, Professor of Political Science and former Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences; Kaija Schilde, Assistant Professor of International Relations; and Vivien Schmidt, Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Director of the Center for the Study of Europe. Other institutional partners include Drake University, the University of Miami, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of Scranton, the University of Wyoming, as well as a number of European institutions.

The project began last fall and will run through the summer 2017. Through a combination of publications, conferences, and training seminars, WeBIND—by bringing together top international universities and organizations to showcase research and publications on women in international relations—aims to identify challenges to women in international relations and contribute potential solutions.
