French Impressions: Vocal Music in the Fin-de-siècle - A Recital with Remarks & Luncheon. Join us as baritone Dana Whiteside and history professor and accomplished pianist James Johnson present a recital featuring the music of French composers Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, and Maurice Ravel. Professor Johnson will offer remarks on these musical settings drawn from the work of the French poet Paul Verlaine. Over their fifteen-year collaboration, Whiteside and Johnson have explored themes touching German romanticism, American composers in Paris, European music between the two world wars, and twentieth-century settings of Shakespeare. Event takes place as part of Arts, Culture, & Ideas, a discussion series that gives alumni an opportunity for discussion with Boston University faculty members, and is brought to you by the Boston University Alumni Association and the Boston University Center for the Humanities. Registration required.
