Users of the Enrollment and Student Affairs Local Area Network (LAN) can allow other users from the unit to access files and folders within their network directories.

The ESO Network Administrator is responsible for the security configuration of all network shared resources, including permission rights granted to network resources.

Creating a New Shared Resource

The departmental Data Trustee informs the ESO Network Administrator in writing that the creation of a new shared resource is required.

The request should include:

  • The full names and e-mail addresses of everyone who will be using this resource, including their access permissions. The most frequently used permissions are Modify or Read.
  • The new directory name and path.
  • A description of the shared resource.

The shared resource will be established within two business days of the Data Trustee’s request. Notification to the Trustee will be made upon its availability.

Access to Existing Shared Resources

The departmental Data Trustee must inform the ESO Network Administrator, in writing, that access to an existing shared resource is required.

The request should include:

  • The full names and e-mail addresses of everyone who will be using this resource, including their access permissions. The most frequently used permissions are Modify or Read.
  • The directory name and path.

Access to existing shared resources will be granted within one business day of the Data Trustee’s request. Notification to the Trustee will be made upon completion.

Maintaining a Shared Resource

Directories acting as shared resources are maintained by the ESO Network Operations Group, who conduct periodic reviews of these resources and access to them. Data Trustees will be notified of any shared resource for which no departmental access exists.
