The Boston University Escort Security Service was established in 1980 to enhance the safety and security of the University community and to encourage use of campus facilities at night.
In the beginning, the Escort Security Service had fifteen employees and ran from 8 p.m. until midnight. The service has now grown to approximately sixty student employees, with expanded hours.
Since its inception, the Escort Security Service has provided over 98,000 walks or rides to students, faculty, staff, and guests of Boston University. The Escort Security Service is not a law enforcement agency; however our staff are trained to avoid verbal or physical confrontations with suspicious persons. Boston University Police and local police are immediately notified in cases of suspected danger, injury, or criminal activity.
