Elemental Analysis at the
Department of Earth Sciences

We perform both highly accurate quantitative and semi quantitative analyses of elemental concentrations and some isotopic ratios with 1-2% precision. Highlighted below are elements we routinely measure. Although we primarily measure geologic, environmental and oceanographic materials, we have also analyzed many other types of samples. As described elsewhere on these pages, we operate a Jobin Yvon Ultima C Inductively Coupled Plasma-Emission Spectrometer (ICP-ES) and a VG PlasmaQuad Excell Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS), which is equipped with a Merchantek LUV213 laser ablation system.
