Student life:

During the 3-day field trip in Iceland we will stay in self-catering hostels and travel in special high-clearance buses driven by professional Icelandic dirvers. This will enable us to drive off-road and reach remote sites of interest.

In Connemara, we will stay in an outdoor education center. Mini buses will be driven by professors and graduate students.

Breakfast will be at 8 a.m. daily. Field exercises follow from 9-5. Dinner is served by the center's catering staff at 6 p.m.

On most evenings, there is 1.0 to 1.5 hours of "inking in."

The remainder of the evening is typically spent relaxing, watching videos, or socializing with the locals in the village of Clonbur. Located in the "Gaeltacht" - the Irish speaking part of western Ireland - Clonbur is highly representative of traditional rural Ireland (but don't worry, everybody speaks English!).

On free days, students organize their own trips, e.g. to Galway City, the Aran Islands, and Westport. Leisure-time activities include swimming, canoeing, fishing, caving, horse riding, soccer, Frisbee, etc.

Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre provides clean, warm accommodation, healthy catered meals (with a vegetarian option every day), and a weekly laundry of bed linen and towels.

Students do their personal laundry on a roster. There is a TV lounge and (primitive) Internet facility. Each 4-bed dorm has an en-suite bathroom with shower.
