Research Interests III:

Integration of Strain, Kinematic, and Surface Process Studies in Thrust Belts.

I am interested in quantitative study of thrusting and mountain building. P.D.F. Dwight Bradley, graduate students Gloria Eisenstadt and Stephen Phillips, and I spent six-weeks on Ellesmere Island, Canada, and documented a pivotal orogeny - the Eurekan. Graduate student Dave Anastasio and I discovered that thrust sheets in the Spanish Pyrenees moved over the synorogenic surface like glaciers, advancing and retreating in response to the balance of tectonic forces and climate change. Other field projects included studies with students Eric Beam, Celia Kohn, Gulzar Aziz, Robert Gower, and Tim Kusky in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the Northwest Territories of Canada, and, recent collaboration with Prof. Carol Simpson in the Scandinavian Caledonides, Nova Scotia, and Argentinian Andes.

Ten papers from these field studies follow:

I'm planning to publish a temporal map for the Central Andes.

Research Interests IV:

Internet Resources and Electronic Publications

By 1988, my computer programs were in such demand that I set up a formal distribution process and in 1995, I transferred all distribution to the Internet. Most of my electronic publications were not subject to peer review because no such process existed at the time. However, over 200 universities on 5 continents have licensed my software.
