The Student Ambassador program enlists qualified BU undergrads to support the Center for Career Development (CCD) and Educational Resource Center (ERC) in promoting their programs and services.
Ambassadors are trained to serve the student population by engaging with the BU undergraduate community in order to raise awareness of and increase participation in CCD and ERC programs and services. CCD-ERC Student Ambassadors also provide engaging presentations that help students develop academically and professionally. As the CCD-ERC liaisons to the BU community, Ambassadors are the face of the CCD and ERC at 100 Bay State Road and help keep our resources relevant and accessible by fostering a supportive peer-to-peer environment at 100 Bay State Road and across campus.
The mission of the Center for Career Development (CCD) is to support students through the decision-‐making process for majors and careers. The CCD partners with students on self-‐ assessment, major and career exploration, and finding the best fit at BU and beyond. The CCD assists students in developing skills, career tools, and strategies to pursue graduate study, internships, and jobs.
The Educational Resource Center (ERC) seeks to establish student-‐led efforts across campus to offer academic support resources and programming in an environment that showcases and fosters student leadership and peer-to-peer mentoring.
Student Ambassadors are responsible for supporting CCD and ERC efforts to raise awareness among all members of the Boston University community about programs and resources available through both centers.
Ambassadors must be strong public speakers and regularly present CCD-ERC introductions as well as academic-and career-related workshops to students, classes, and special groups within the Boston University community.
Ambassadors are knowledgeable about the CCD and ERC and their resources and keep current on the ongoing events at both centers. Ambassadors also contribute to both centers’ participation in campus-wide events, such as annual Open Houses and Summer and Winter Orientation programs. All Ambassadors are equally trained to provide support to both offices.
Student Ambassadors help support CCD and ERC efforts to reach out to the BU community through presentations about the centers and their resources. In addition to sharing information, they also work to actively engage students with the CCD and ERC and encourage attendance at events and workshops.
Student Ambassadors run workshops in highly visible programming space. They also contribute to publicity efforts for CCD and ERC programs and events.
Student Ambassadors can expect to hone their skills in:
• Outreach and Engagement
• Community Building
• Developing Relationships
• Oral Presentation
• Writing and Editing
• Listening and Providing Support
• Identifying Resources
The Student Ambassador position is a highly visible role in a flagship student services space. Ambassadors must possess the ability to be part of a team and inspire a sense of community and enthusiasm. They must welcome professional development and be able to accurately execute instructions and inform campus constituents. Familiarity with the Boston University culture is highly desirable. The ability to connect and work with a variety of personalities and exercise diplomacy is critical.
