FRA & TRA Frequently Asked Questions
What is a FRA/TRA?
FRAs and TRAs are sophomore, junior, and senior students in CAS who serve as peer advisors to freshmen and transfer students also in CAS. Each FRA/TRA helps to ease the transition of first year students into college life at Boston University by being a mentor and a resource.
Why do I need a FRA/TRA? What can a FRA/TRA do for me?
A FRA/TRA is your peer who has been through an experience that may be similar to the one you will be going through and he or she can be a great resource in helping you navigate your way around a large place like BU and sharing his or her own experience. He or she can help by directing you to the right person or resource on campus when you need advice or an answer to a question. A FRA/TRA is NOT your academic advisor and will not give you the answer to specific questions you may have but rather will help you find that answer through accessing the wide array of resources available at BU.
How can I get a FRA/TRA?
Each CAS student entering BU for the first time has the opportunity to request a FRA or TRA. Students can sign-up on-line by visiting the FRA/TRA section of the ERC website (www.bu.edu/erc). Students who have been admitted to schools other than CAS should contact their respective schools in order to inquire about the peer advising programs at their schools.
How do I find out who is my FRA/TRA?
In August, you will receive a letter from your assigned FRA/TRA. If for some reason, you do not receive this letter please contact us at fra@bu.edu or 617-353-7077.
How do I contact my FRA/TRA?
In the letter from your FRA/TRA he or she will include his or her contact information such as e-mail, phone number, or AIM name and a preferred way to reach him or her. Once you have this information, please feel free to contact your FRA/TRA with any questions you may have prior to your arrival on campus.
What should I do if I haven’t heard from my FRA/TRA?
This shouldn’t happen because each and every FRA/TRA is very excited to welcome you to the BU community but in case the letter your FRA/TRA sent gets lost in the mail or doesn’t get to you for one reason for another, you can contact our FRA/TRA student coordinators who are at BU during the summer. Please send an e-mail to fra@bu.edu or call 617-353-7077; they will get back to you as soon as they can.
