THING
The
Council for Women's Entrepreneurship and Leadership (CWEL)
The
Council for Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL), launched
in the fall of 2000, is a resource center for and about women entrepreneurs
and leaders that focuses on research, resources, relevant education, and
relationships. It is our intent to have CWEL become the premier resource
center for research, education and information about women's entrepreneurship
and leadership serving the school, alumni, University, local and world
communities. Each spring, we hold the Women's
Leadership Forum, which features a series of presentations, panels
and discussions with highly visible women executives and entrepreneurs
from around the world.
In
the past, women have faced unreal hurdles to get their business ideas
turned into reality. We formed CWEL to help you realize your entrepreneurial
dreams through a focus on:
Research:
Supporting and promoting the study of women's entrepreneurship and
leadership, both in the U.S. and internationally.
The
Diana Project
was established in 1999 to raise awareness and expectations of
women business owners regarding the growth of their firms. The
research consortium involves five project partners including CWEL
Director, Candida
Brush.
Relationships:
Cultivating and nurturing networks of women from Boston University,
including undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, faculty, entrepreneurs,
and government agencies. We use the center to bring these groups together
for events, programs, workshops, mentoring, collective learning,
and research.
Resources:
We have built an impressive library on women's entrepreneurship and
leadership. Materials are available in hardcopy and electronically
so women around the world can access our research studies, books,
journals, government reports, publications, and other materials about
women entrepreneurs and leaders. We have a unique collection of histories
and manuscripts about and by notable women entrepreneurs and leaders
from around the world.
Relevant
Education:
We collect teaching materials, identify best practices, and create
cases/materials that feature successful women entrepreneurs and leaders
from the U.S. and internationally as case protagonists. We also conduct
workshops, executive learning programs, and courses for and about
women entrepreneurs and leaders.
