Diversity and Plasticity of Life: A Biologist’s Journey from Embryo Self-Defense to Sexual Behavior – The 2018 University Lecture

  • Starts: 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2018
  • Ends: 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2018
As a biologist, Professor Karen Warkentin studies how environmental variation affects development and evolution, working with Neotropical frogs. As a gender and sexuality scholar, she considers human sexual diversity in the context of evolutionary history and the multifaceted potential of development. Her presentation will highlight some of her, and her students, groundbreaking discoveries from their rainforest field research with frogs, consider how including minority perspectives can help advance science, and offer evolutionary and developmental perspectives for thinking about diversity in gender and sexuality. Free and open to the public.
