Research Opportunities
Engineering Scholars Program
(ENG Scholar)
The ENG Scholars
program is a merit award given to students at the time of
admission to Boston University. ENG Scholars receive a package
of benefits, including a half-tuition scholarship to Boston
University. Scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters,
provided a 3.20 GPA is maintained (details).
Additionally, students receive funding for up to 10 hours
of research per week for one semester, and automatic admission
to a Boston University College of Engineering Master of
Science program (provided students maintain a 3.40 grade

Trustee, Bell and FIRST Scholars
These scholarship recipients are also eligible for research funding for up to 10 hours of research a week for one semester. Students wishing to utilize this benefit must complete the ENG Scholars Form above and submit to the Dean's Office for approval.
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
A summer program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in which students work on faculty-mentored research projects. Participants receive a weekly stipend and free on-campus housing. Applications due February 15th. Further details available here.
Summer Term Alumni Research Scholars
(STARS)
College of Engineering undergraduates engaged in faculty-mentored
full-time research experiences during the summer may apply
for the STARS program. STARS participants will receive 10 or 12 weeks of housing in a Boston University residence
hall OR $2500 towards off-campus housing costs. To
be eligible, students must receive a weekly stipend from
an engineering faculty mentor to participate in full-time
research during the summer (summer courses are not allowed).

Supplemental
Undergraduate Research Funds (SURF)
The College of Engineering SURF program encourages faculty
to involve undergraduates in their research programs by
providing matching funds for undergraduate students who
are working on faculty-sponsored research. Requests for
SURF funds are made by individual faculty as they seek to
hire students for their labs. SURF

Industrial Research Fellowship Program (IRFP)
A summer program funded by donations from the Industrial Supporters of the Boston University's Biomedical Engineering Senior Project Program. The program is designed to help students in the Biomedical Engineering program obtain research positions with the potential to extend to Senior Design Projects during the subsequent academic year. Participants receive a $3000 stipend and either free on-campus housing or $3000 towards off-campus housing. Applications due March 6th.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
is a University-wide academic program which promotes participation
by Boston University undergraduates in faculty-mentored
research across all disciplines and throughout the calendar
