Scientific American Names BME’s Collins to List of Top 50 Science and Technology Leaders
Biomedical Engineering Prof. James Collins has been named to Scientific American magazine’s list of the top 50 science and technology leaders of 2005. The list will appear in the magazine’s December issue, which hits newsstands on Nov. 22.
Scientific American is recognizing Collins for his research contributions in synthetic biology, specifically the design and construction of programmable cells. He has been a member of the BME Department faculty since 1990, and is a University Professor.
“The Scientific American 50 is our annual opportunity to salute the people and organizations worldwide whose research, policy or business leadership has played a major role in bringing about the science and technology innovations that are improving the way we live and offer the greatest hope for the future,” said John Rennie, the magazine’s editor-in-chief.
