Professors Steven Colburn and Allan Pierce Honored by the Acoustical Society of America
The Acoustical Society of America is the premier international scientific society in acoustics, dedicated to increasing and diffusing the knowledge of acoustics and its practical applications.1 Founded in 1929, the society has approximately 7200 members and meets twice a year. About one thousand papers are presented at each of these meetings and Boston University students frequently win best paper awards for their work. There are approximately 35 members of the ASA throughout Boston University, with the majority being associated with the College of Engineering.
During the annual meeting of the Acoustical Society of America on May 18, 2005, Professor Steven Colburn will be presented with the Silver Medal in Psychological and Physiological Acoustics and Professor Allan Pierce will receive the Gold Medal.
The Silver Medal is presented to individuals, without age limitation, for contributions to the advancement of science, engineering, or human welfare through the application of acoustic principles or through research accomplishments in acoustics.2
The Gold Medal is presented in the Spring to a member of the Society, without age limitation, for unusually distinguished contributions to acoustics and to the Acoustical Society.2
