Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS)
Saturday, April 5, 2008
The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) is an annual event that provides high school students who have done original research in the sciences, mathematics, or engineering an opportunity to present what they have done to an audience of other students, high school teachers, and professional scientists. The Symposium also provides and opportunity for students to win scholarships as well as to participate in the National JSHS.
The JSHS Program promotes original research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high school level and publicly recognizes students for outstanding achievement. By connecting talented students, their teachers, and research professionals at affiliated symposia and by rewarding research excellence, JSHS aims to widen the pool of trained talent prepared to conduct research and development vital to our nation.
The JSHS mission:
- To promote research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high school level.
- To recognize the significance of research in human affairs and the importance of humane and ethical principles in the application of research results.
- To search out talented youth and their teachers, recognize their accomplishments at symposia, and encourage their continued interest and participation in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
- To expand the horizons of research-oriented students by exposing them to opportunities in the academic, industrial, and governmental communities.
- To increase the number of future adults capable of conducting research and development.
JSHS is sponsored by the United States Departments of the Army, Navy and Air Force, and is administered by the Academy of Applied Science. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities for 2007-2008.
