Nanotechnology in Medicine: From Diagnostics to Therapeutics

Back to agenda

Micro and nano technologies for more effective therapies

Michael J. Cima, Ph.D.

We are witnessing a radical change in health care institutions in the US.

Increasing complexity in diagnosis and treatment is delivering performance that patients need or can use. Rising costs are, however, requiring that these services be done more efficiently. This often means that procedures or diagnoses previously performed with extended hospitalization are now done in an outpatient setting. Patient and hospital compliance is becoming even more valuable in the emerging cost-constrained health care system.

Technology has and will play an ever increasing role that will lead to improved medical outcomes but also increased efficiency. This talk will review emerging nano and micro technologies relevant to the future healthcare system.
