Emerging Technology and Best Practices Seminar Series

The Emerging Technology and Best Industry Practices seminar series sponsored by Boston University's College of Engineering is held twice a year. The objective is to provide a catalyst for leaders from industry and academic researchers to learn from emerging technology areas, current best practices, research and development requirements and market trends. We provide a forum for industry and academia to learn about technology, development, and research requirements that drive market growth.
We believe that these events provide an important vehicle to help foster the technology community in the northeast, an important part of promoting the high tech sector.
Typically this one-day event draws an audience of 150 people.
Our next Emerging Technology seminar is scheduled on Friday, April 4, 2008 from 8am -5pm.
It is entitled "Nanotechnology in Medicine: From Diagnostics to Therapeutics".
The following is a brief topic description:
Sustained research efforts over the last few decades have
resulted in nanoparticle-based systems with increasing importance in clinical applications ranging from diagnostics to therapeutics. Advances in the fabrication and characterization of these particles have ensured their greater availability for both basic and applied research; tailoring their size, composition, and surface properties has allowed researchers to utilize these nanoparticles for a wide range of uses in medicine.
This ET Seminar will focus on applications in three key areas of research: diagnostic, imaging, and therapeutic uses of nanoscale particles. The speakers include experts in the fabrication, characterization and clinical use of medically-relevant nanoparticles.
The research topics will cover work on polymer nanoparticles, metal oxide nanoparticles, and liposomes. Discussion will also include challenges and strategies for bringing basic research findings to the clinic. In addition to research presentations, the program includes opportunities for academic, clinical and industrial researchers to discuss the latest advances at the forefront of this field.
The event is co-sponsored by the College of Engineering, the Center for Nanoscience and Nanobiotechnology and the School of Medicine at Boston University. Symposium co-organizers are Joyce Wong and Linda K. Molnar.
