Yesterday's
edition (Thursday, January 27, 2005) of the Wall Street Journal contains a
wonderful resource nugget. Walter
Mossberg, who writes about technology issues, shared his take on a free website
and free software application that is a terrific supplement to search engines
such as Google, AskJeeves, etc.
This
program will allow you to push the "Alt" button on your keyboard and then
"click" with your mouse on a word - any word - in any type of
document - Word, Excel, databases, websites - and up comes a screen with that
word's definition and specific links to find out more - images of it, webpage
links to it, etc. It is a gold mine to
help you in your everyday work. It provides
data, not just a bunch of weblinks which may, or may
not, be useful.
Go
to: www.answers.com to learn more. They have a free Flash demo there hat will
show you what it does. So far one
million pages of information are stored there, which isn't huge compared to
some search engines, but it is a cool and growing site.
****Find information on a company – Type in
the company name. Example: “Analog
Devices”
This
could be a very useful tool during your job search….
