Career Development Staff

Dottie Catlin, Director

Dottie joined the CDO in March 2010, prior to which she worked for Mass Bay Community College as a Career and Educational Coach. Dottie brings eight years of career development experience in both Non-Profit and Higher Education to her role at BU. Dottie worked for Boston Career Link, a one-stop career center in Boston on the career counseling and employer relations teams. She then spent almost five years at Wentworth Institute of Technology, initially as a Career Counselor, and then was promoted to Assistant Director of Career Services where her focus was employer relations and event planning. Dottie has a Bachelor of Science in Experiential Education from the University of New Hampshire and a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University. Dottie is an active member of many career counseling associations, including; National Association of Colleges and Employers, Career Counselors Consortium and Career Resource Managers Association.

Dottie is married with three children and considers herself to be a lifetime athlete. She has always led an active lifestyle, which included participating in three Division I sports during her college years, and has since completed five marathons and a Half Ironman, with many other athletic pursuits on the horizon. Dottie enjoys traveling and reading non-fiction also.

In her role, Dottie manages the CDO office, which provides job search resources to the College of Engineering students and alumni. She focuses on creating and maintaining relationships with recruiting partners nationally and globally to target BU engineering talent, and to show them that BU engineers learn the skills to make a difference in society.

A. David Brown, Assistant Director
Biomedical Engineering Majors

Dave joined the CDO in May 2006, prior to which he was the Experiential Education Coordinator at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Before coming to WPI, he was a Sales Representative for QuickPAD Technology Corporation and a Technology Recruiter at Otec.com. Raised in Boston, Dave returned to his roots in 2003 after two years in San Francisco and six years in New York City. He has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Computer Applications from New York University and a Masters of Business Administration from the Clark University Graduate School of Management, where he also served as a Graduate Assistant in the Career Services Office. Dave is a member of the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers, enjoys baseball, and supports the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

In his role Dave supports the Biomedical Engineering population through student advising, employer relations activities, and organization of a variety of events and workshops.

Liz Burke Cantwell, Assistant Director
Aerospace, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Majors

Liz joined the CDO in July 2008, prior to which she worked as a Recruiter at The Boston Consulting Group. She has also worked in public relations, working with clients in the technology, consumer, and professional service industries.

Liz holds a M.S. in Higher Education Administration and Policy from Northwestern University and a B.A. in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University. While in graduate school at Northwestern University, Liz designed and implemented new career service programming for Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies and was a career adviser at DePaul University. Outside of work, Liz enjoys reading new fiction, trying out different cooking recipes, and she is attempting to travel to all 50 states in the US.

In her role, Liz supports the student advising for undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni in the Aerospace, Mechanical, and Manufacturing department. She also handles employer relations activities, management of co-op/internships for her majors, and organization of a variety of events and workshops, particularly planning the fall and spring career fairs.

Kathleen Fay, Assistant Director
Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering Majors

Kathleen joined the CDO in June 2010, prior to which she was the Director of Academic Planning and Support at Labouré College. Kathleen also brings a solid background in Career Services that she gained from being the Senior Co-op Advisor at Wentworth Institute of Technology for four years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from New England College. Outside of work Kathleen enjoys spending time with her family, biking, and DIY home renovations.

In her role Kathleen supports the Electrical and Computer Engineering population through student advising, employer relations activities, and organization of a variety of events and workshops.
