OBJECTIVE: To synthesize and evaluate a novel, longer lasting “bio-lubricant” of polysaccharide surrogate polymers for the treatment of arthritic and sport-injured joints.  The current treatment procedure for arthritic and sports-injured knee joints involves repeated injections of of hyaluronic acid (HA) affording sub-optimal patient outcomes likely due to short resident time.
