OBJECTIVE: To develop and refine an automated system to help physicians assess preoperative risk of difficult intubation in adults.  The system is comprised of a hand-held device used to generate a 3-D model and predicts difficult intubations with a higher accuracy than current clinical methods. Successful preliminary results have been obtained, and work is underway to extend the algorithm to include a wider patient base.
