March 2004

Engineer as Entrepreneur

The Engineer as Entrepreneur series has proven to be a successful student/alumni event at the College of Engineering. Last fall, David Deems (ENG '83) and Nick Lippis (ENG '84) came individually to campus to give a presentation to the seniors about their career paths and how they came to be an entrepreneur in the engineering field. Most recently, Sanjay Patel (ENG '87) and Paul Bierden (ENG '92, '94) spoke to the graduating class in January and in February about their entrepreneurial endeavors. The series gives the students a unique perspective on the different career paths one can follow after receiving an engineering degree from the College of Engineering at Boston University.

This state-of-the-art research building will house faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences departments of biology and chemistry, the College of Engineering department of biomedical engineering, and the University's Bioinformatics Graduate Program.  The new building will be 10-stories high and 184,000 square-feet and will include 41 laboratories, 45 offices, conference rooms, and a 150-seat seminar room.  For current construction updates, visit www.bu.edu/construction/projects/life/ or view our live cam at http://www.bu.edu/construction/projects/life/cam/index.html.

Alumni Awards 2004

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the Boston University Alumni (BUA) are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2004 Boston University Alumni Awards. The BUA strives to increase recognition of Boston University and our distinguished alumni through the Boston University Alumni Awards.

This year's breakfast and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 16, during Homecoming and Parents Weekend. Since its inception in 1946, the Boston University Alumni Awards have been the highest honor the BUA bestows on our alumni. Awardees are honored each year in the presence of more than 1,000 alumni, students, families, and guests gathered to celebrate this important tradition.

The nomination process for the Boston University Alumni Award involves all of us. It encompasses a broad canvassing of alumni, administrators, and faculty. Wide participation is critical to the Alumni Awards selection process.  If you know of an alumna or alumnus whom you feel has made remarkable contributions professionally or as a volunteer, please complete the online nomination form by March 19th.  Thank you in advance for your participation.

Giving Back

The support from our alumni is essential to keeping BU on the leading edge of higher education. Alumni donations to the ENG Fund will assist the College of Engineering in enhancing the programs and projects that directly benefit our students - tomorrow's leaders of technology and society.  We hope you will consider making a gift today by using our secure online form found at https://www.bu.edu/alumni/eng/giving/index.html. Your generosity has a very real and vital impact on the College of Engineering's continued success. If you have any questions regarding your donation, please contact Steve Witkowski, Director of Development for the College of Engineering, at 617-358-0608 or stevewit@bu.edu.
