Systems Engineering Division
Division Links
The Division of Systems Engineering provides a home for researchers from across colleges to model, design, analyze and manage complex systems within a broad array of applications. We draw more than a dozen participating faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, along with affiliated faculty from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Management.
Research
The division’s research arm is the Center for Information & Systems Engineering, which supports interdisciplinary research in five key areas:
- Automation, robotics and control
- Communications and networking
- Computational biology
- Information sciences
- Production, service systems and distribution systems
History
The Division of Systems Engineering was established as an academic unit within the College of Engineering in July 2008. The division grew out of the successful operation of the Center for Information & Systems Engineering, which BU created in 2002 to bring together select faculty committed to designing and managing human-made and physical systems spanning a broad range of applications.
