Title: "Engineering Vascularized Adipose Tissue for Microsurgical Implantation" Committee: Prof. Joe Tien, BME (Advisor, Chair) Prof. Mark Grinstaff, BME Prof. Bela Suki, BME Prof. Katherine Zhang, ME Abstract: Despite much effort on engineering vascularized adipose tissue, there are currently no working models that allow anastomosis to host circulation and establish immediate perfusion, which is necessary for survival of tissue of clinically relevant volume. In the proposed work, I will make two building blocks of a pefusable vascularized adipose tissue for implantation via microsurgical anastomosis: 1) a 1 mm × 1 mm × 1 cm adipose tissue that contains one 120 µm vessel, and 2) a 1-mm-diameter collagen tube which will serve as vascular pedicle for the adipose tissue. I will also make a perfusable and implantable adipose tissue containing a one-bifurcation network.
