Welcome New BUMECHE Faculty (Fall 2018)
We are so happy to announce the recent addition of two very talented and passionate BUMECHE faculty.
William (Will) Boley is a new BUMECHE Assistant Professor. His research focuses on multi-functional additive manufacturing for electronics, optics, sensors, and shape-shifting structures. Prior to joining the department, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. Will received his Ph.D. from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University with a focus on functional inkjet printing. Prior to joining Harvard, he also carried out postdoctoral research on soft electronics and robotics at Purdue.
Senior Lecturer, Dr. Christie Bielmeier, brings her research of developing eco-friendly bug-resistant products to BU Mechanical Engineering Department. She works to bring her entrepreneurial sprit and research based experience to the classroom. She hope to engage BU students with the development of less toxic, insect resistant clothing for people throughout the world. Bielmeier teaches product development and CAD courses at BU.
Outside the classroom, Bielmeier is CTO and founder of Lil Buggers, creators of the world’s first chemical-free insect resistant clothes for kids. This Boston-based company uses cutting-edge textile design: their innovative garments protect kids from mosquito and tick bites without chemical additives. Lil Buggers gear is hand sewn and embroidered in Somerville, MA and can be purchased online. Lil Buggers fabric was developed for the military, but strong enough to standup to whatever kids can dish out! The fabric features UV protection, moisture resistance, and high durability.
