Prof. Pierre E. Dupont has been appointed the Edward P. Marram Chair in Pediatric Cardiac Bioengineering at Children’s Hospital Boston.
The Edward P. Marram Chair in Pediatric Cardiac Bioengineering was established by a generous donation from Edward P. Marram, PhD. Dr. Marram has been an entrepreneur in the high-technology sector for more than 35 years. He has also taught entrepreneurship at Babson College for over 20 years.
Prof. Dupont is the first incumbent of the Edward P. Marram Chair. His research focuses ondeveloping robotic instruments and imaging technology that can be used to perform complex repairs inside the beating heart. Such surgeries are needed to correct congenital heart defects (the most common birth defect) in the fetal and pediatric heart. Prof. Dupont was a full-time faculty member at Boston University for 19 years with appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. He moved to Children’s Hospital in 2009 to become Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Bioengineering. He remains on the faculty at Boston University and continues to supervise graduate student research in his lab at Children’s Hospital.
