The Mechanical Engineering Department is pleased to announce William Hauser’s appointment to Associate Professor of the Practice. He is the first faculty member in the College of Engineering to hold this position.
Professor Hauser received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Swarthmore College, and his M.S. and Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After graduation, he engaged in “real life engineering” at AT&T, first as a Manufacturing Engineer at Western Electric in North Carolina, and later as product designer and product design manager at AT&T Bell Laboratories in North Andover, MA.
Since joining Boston University in 1997, Professor Hauser has been teaching manufacturing engineering classes. His research has focused on remanufacturing, especially the organization, scale, and scope of remanufacturing, which he has done in collaboration with Professor Robert Lund.
Starting in the fall semester 2010, Professor Hauser will focus on design courses, including senior project courses, where he is eager to help students appreciate “how engineering principles shape practice in the real industrial environment.”
