ECE Alumnus Appointed President of The Society of Women Engineers

Michelle TortolaniECE alumnus Michelle Tortolani (BS ’82, MS ’89) was recently appointed President of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

SWE is a national not-for-profit educational and service organization that works to drive interest in engineering as a desirable career aspiration for women. Tortolani is a senior life member of SWE and has been a member of SWE for more than 20 years, holding a variety of positions at the section, region and national levels.

Tortolani currently works as the Senior Director of Repeater Engineering and Operations at XM Satellite Radio Inc., a satellite radio broadcasting company headquartered in Washington, DC. In this role she leads a multi-disciplined team that manages the operation, maintenance, and expansion of a nationwide repeater network and designs and develops the repeater hardware for the network.

Tortolani is a former member of the Boston University Engineering Alumni Board and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Her appointment as President of SWE began in August 2007.
