ENACT in the Community: Arthritis Health Fairs in 2013
ENACT continues to stay involved in community arthritis health events wherever possible, including two recent large health expos in Boston. On March 23rd, 2013 ENACT faculty and staff, along with Sargent College students, took part in the Arthritis Foundation’s Better Living with Arthritis Expo held at Boston College High School. At the Expo, ENACT was prominently featured in both the resources and research sections of the Expo.
Sargent Doctor of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students volunteered their time to offer postural assessments and adaptive equipment demonstrations. Both of these were a hit with the attendees and also a positive community service experience for the students. Other seminars and exhibits included topics such as arthritis research, pain management, surgery for arthritis, and living with arthritis as a young person.
Additionally, ENACT represented Sargent College at this summer’s Boston Medical Center Health and Fitness Expo, sponsored by Channel 7 News. The event, stretching over the weekend of June 22-23, drew 70,000 guests to the Hynes Convention Center. Among the many health-related exhibits, ENACT’s bright red “Got Arthritis?” t-shirts must have gotten some attention! The line for postural assessments again offered by ENACT faculty and staff at the ENACT/Sargent College booth stretched around the corner for most of the day.
