Educational Media and Technology

The program in Educational Media and Technology prepares graduates for a variety of professional careers through a carefully blended curriculum of core courses, electives, and field experiences.Graduates go on to professional careers as teachers, professors, and researchers, as instructional designers, independent designers and developers of educational resources, k-12 technology directors and instructional technologists, and managers of the human and technology-based resources necessary to support education and training with technology.

Our program is guided by embracing new technologies while simultaneously respecting the history of educational technology. History demonstrates the need to use technology in support of human interactive processes of learning directed by teachers, trainers, and professors. Through focusing on the design of technology-based resources that support teaching and learning in holistically envisioned learning experiences, we leverage technology to improve, enhance, and support education consistent with what history and research tell us about effectiveness.
“As Pascal said,
‘It is only by knowing our condition that we can transcend it.’
Our technology brings us the omnipresent present. It dulls our sense of history, and if we are not careful it can destroy it”
(Boorstin, 1974)
