If you see fire or smoke, remember A.C.E.S.:
| Alert |
Activate the nearest alarm-pull box, BU Police at 353-2121, and report the exact location of the fire. DO NOT HESITATE IN ACTIVATING THE ALARM-PULL BOX UPON THE DETECTION OF FIRE AND/OR SMOKE. |

|
Confine |
Close all doors in fire area to confine fire and smoke. |

|
Evacuate |
When the fire alarm sounds, immediately evacuate the building. Once outside, report to your supervisor.
In order to account for all individuals after a building evacuation, it is important for all evacuees to meet at the designated meeting or 'rally' point. To determine the designated meeting point for your building, please consult your building's fire safety plan (posted in common areas) or contact the Office of Environmental Health and Safety at (617) 353-4094.
For buildings with assigned Fire Marshals and Evacuation Directors:
Fire Marshals will conduct floor sweeps in their designated areas to ensure all employees and students have been evacuated from the building. The Fire Marshals will then exit the building and report the location of any missing/trapped individuals to the Evacuation Director. The Evacuation Director will inform the Fire Department of the location of any individuals remaining in the building.

Special Assistance |
Persons who may need assistance during an evacuation should:
Notify the Office of Disability Services and The Office of Residence Life (if the person is a student), and develop a Personal Evacuation Plan. Whenever possible, everyone should evacuate. However, if unable to evacuate for any reason, persons should seek refuge in the nearest stairway landing or other pre-determined location.
Pre-planning is critical to a successful evacuation, particularly for those requiring assistance. If you will require assistance during an evacuation, you should keep all essential items (i.e. medications, etc.) at hand. You should also know where you will need to go in the event that you are unable to evacuate and have a plan on how to communicate your location to emergency responders. If you need guidance, feel free to contact the Office of Environmental Health and Safety at 353-4094.
