Shipping Hazardous Materials
Environmental Health and Safety assists researchers, clinicians, and other members of the Boston University and Boston Medical Center community who need to ship hazardous materials. EHS provides training and other services to ensure compliance with the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) , regulating the transportation of materials within the United States, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), regulating the transportation of these materials through airlines. EHS assists by determining whether materials meet the definition of dangerous goods, selecting labels and packaging material, and completing documentation
EHS has personnel certified to ship these materials to meet DOT and IATA regulations. EHS offers different services for the following categories of dangerous goods:
- Biological
- Chemical
- Radioactive – Please contact RPO
Shipping Biologicals Training is for persons who will be packaging or shipping biohazardous materials.
