Environmental Inspections, also referred to as hazard surveillance rounds, are inspections of the Boston Medical Center environment of care and are required by The Joint Commission. Each patient care area is inspected at least twice annually while non-patient care areas are inspected at least annually. Inspections are conducted by an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) professional and an Infection Control Practitioner.
A policy, Environmental Inspections has been developed which describes the program. This policy is available to the Boston University and Boston Medical Center communities on the BMC Intranet. A schedule is created to ensure all areas are inspected as required. Questions can be directed to EHS at 617 638-7244.
