November 20, 2013: Economics Alumni Lecture by Brian Formento

Alumnus Brian W. Formento, CAIA presented “Hedge Funds: Hedged Investment or Compensation Scheme?” at this Economics Alumni Lecture. Brian W. Formento is Executive Director and Senior Portfolio Strategist at UBS Private Wealth Management in New York. His career on Wall Street extends more than 30 years. Before reaching age 30, he successfully managed the propriety trading group for North America at Paribas Capital Markets. For the past decade he has held key wealth management roles at Deutsche Bank and UBS, focusing on their largest clients, typically those with assets of $50MM and more. Brian’s presentation provided insight into the world of hedge funds – what they do, how they do it and whether they deserve their elevated fees. This event was hosted by the Department of Economics and the Institute for Economic Development for Economics Master’s students and undergraduate seniors and juniors majoring in Economics.
