Economics Convocation FAQs

When and where will the Economics Convocation Ceremony be held?

The Economics Convocation Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, 9:00 am, at the Walter Brown Arena (285 Babcock Street). Graduates should check in at the venue by 8:15 am.

How many guests may I bring?

There are no limits on the number of guests that you may bring to the Economics Convocation Ceremony. Tickets are not required.

What should I expect at the Economics Department’s Convocation Ceremony?

Economics BA, MA and BA/MA graduates along with the walk-throughs, will meet in back on the tennis courts to form a processional to begin this ceremony. Each student is given a card with his or her name on it.  Please hand this card to the reader on-stage who will announce your name (please wait until he completes your full name). You then proceed off the stage. The ceremony concludes with a recession and is expected to end by 10:30 am. A reception in the same venue immediately follows the recession.

Can family and friends take photographs near the stage?

The Economics Department will have a professional photographer present to take pictures as you walk across the stage and receive your red diploma case. Only official photographers are allowed to take photos near the stage during the ceremony. You may take your own photos on stage after the ceremony. The vendor, Commencement Photos, will contact you by email within a few weeks regarding ordering information.

When and how do I receive my diploma?

Students who have completed their requirements and have officially graduated will receive their diplomas immediately after the ceremony in a designated section within the Walter Brown Arena.

In rare cases, diplomas will not be available and may be picked up from the Registrar’s Office or mailed to you by the Registrar’s Office.

All graduates should complete their diploma and graduation information on the Student Link.

Where should my guests and I park?

We encourage the use of public transportation during Commencement Weekend. Shuttle buses will operate along Commonwealth Avenue from Kenmore all the way to Nickerson Field.

All special needs parking requests should be directed to Disability Services.

What if one of my guests has a special need and requires individual accommodation?

Please visit the University’s special needs request page for more information.

Do I have to go to the All-University and Economics Convocation Ceremony?

Attendance at both ceremonies is optional.  You may choose to attend one or both. Both ceremonies require you to wear a cap and gown.
