The MAEP is an intensive three-semester program combining a strong foundation in economics with the management skills appropriate for students interested in careers as policy analysts and decision-makers in government, nonprofit institutions, international organizations, and the private sector. The core of the program provides a foundation in economic theory and its application, quantitative methods, and the basic tools of management analysis. The MAEP permits in-depth specialization in two policy and management fields drawn from courses offered in both the Economics Department and Boston University’s School of Management.

Program Structure
There is a required core of 6 courses. Four core courses are devoted to micro and macro economics and quantitative methods and two are in management, drawn from a short list of introductory Master of Business Administration courses and Economics Department courses. Students select two fields of specialization, consisting of two courses each. They also choose two elective courses. Specializations and elective courses in the School of Management are chosen to complement the Economics Department’s offerings. Qualified students may pursue an independent research program or a graduate internship program as one of these electives.

Twelve full-semester graduate courses (48 credits), of which at least seven courses (28 credits) must be economics courses and at least two of the field courses must be economics courses.
