Distinguished Visitor John Rust (University of Maryland): Oct. 24 – 28

It is with great pleasure to inform you of our Industrial Organization Distinguished Visitor John Rust. He will be visiting with us on Monday, October 24th to Friday October 28th. John Rust is a Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland. He received his PhD from MIT in 1983.

Professor Rust’s fields of interest in research are industrial organization, econometrics, micro-economic theory, computational issues, and labor economics. He has made many important contributions, and is particularly well-known for his work on methods for the structural estimation dynamic discrete choice problems.

In addition, Professor Rust is an architect of EconJobMarket, as well as Conference Maker and Editorial Express, which form a software backbone for the operation of the economics profession.
Professor Rust will give the Microeconomics Seminar as usually scheduled on Tuesday, October 25th from 3:30pm to 5:00pm, titled: “A Dynamic Model of Bertrand Price Competition with Leapfrogging Investments”, in room 315. He will give two lectures, the first is titled “The Free Installment Puzzle, scheduled for Monday, October 24th from 2pm to 3:30pm in room 315 The second lecture is of particularly wide appeal to graduate students titled “Can the Economics Job Market Be Improved?” on Friday, October 28th in room 315 from 2:30pm to 4pm. The paper provides models of how the economics job market works and the presentation includes “a tour inside EconJobMarket.”

Every attempt will be made to give you your desired time however it will be based on a first come first serve bases. The following are the dates and times to request a meeting time are:

Friday, October 28th from 10am to Noon
