Switching Your Master’s Degree
While the ECE Department provides two distinct paths (MS and MEng) toward earning a Master’s degree, it also recognizes that there are instances when a student desires to change from one Master’s program to the other. To accommodate such situations, the ECE Department has instituted procedures and criteria that must be satisfied to accomplish such changes.
An MEng candidate in the ECE Department may petition to become an MS candidate provided (1) the petition is accompanied by an MS project/thesis proposal submitted by the candidate and signed by the prospective project/thesis advisor and (2) the candidate has satisfactorily completed at least 8 credits of coursework in the MEng program. The ECE Grad Committee will evaluate the petition and supporting materials to arrive at a final decision.
An MS candidate may petition to change to the MEng program provided the candidate has satisfactorily completed at least 8 credits of coursework in the MS program. The ECE Grad Committee will evaluate the petition to arrive at a final decision.
The actual switch from one Master’s program to the other will take place only after the student has satisfactorily completed 24 credits while enrolled in the original program.
